NetBeans helps you get started with JavaFX  (blogs.sun.com)

I've been waiting since Java One for the release of the JavaFX SDK. This morning, I was finally able to download the bits and to my pleasant surprise the tooling accompanied the release. I installed a distribution of NetBeans 6.1 that includes support for JavaFX script. ~30MB later and a straight forward install I was ready to go. NetBeans bundles a few samples which are useful when you want to learn by modifying someone else's code.

In a nutshell, for a preview the bits fared well and I was able kick the tires of the new language. Of course the availability of the debugging capabilities that I got with NetBeans made my job easier. Developer docs can be found both on the javafx.com site as well on netbeans.org. I am looking forward to the 1.0 release of the SDK later on this year.

JavaFX Learning Curve Journal Updates  (blogs.sun.com)

In August and September 2007, the Sun Developer Network staff started a Learning Curve Journal, a series designed to help users get started with the JavaFX Script programming language (shortened to JavaFX Script hereafter). A number of significant advances have been made to the language since then. Perhaps most important is the availability of a compiler-based version of JavaFX Script, which replaces the earlier interpreter-based version of the language. The Learning Curve Journal described the use of the interpreter-based version of the language. The Learning Curve Journal has been updated to show you how to use the compiler-based version of the language. Other changes have been made to make the articles current.

Part 1: Exploring JavaFX Script gets you started with a simple JavaFX program, that is, a simple program written in the JavaFX Script language. You'll learn how to set up your environment for programming in JavaFX Script and how to build and run a JavaFX program.

Part 2: Declarative User Interfaces focuses on the declarative style of coding enabled by JavaFX Script. You'll see how this style can make the code for a graphical application simpler and more intuitive.

Part 3: JavaFX Script Functions shows you how to use JavaFX Script functions to implement actions in a Java FX program.

Part 4: Accessing a Web Service demonstrates how to use JavaFX Script to access a web service. In doing that, it also shows how easy it is to access Java technology classes, such as Swing classes, from JavaFX Script.

A number of significant advances have been made to the language since then. The Learning Curve Journal has been updated to show you how to use the compiler-based version of the language. Come and get it! Hot off the grill: JavaFX  (blogs.sun.com)

The preview release of JavaFX is now available, along with libraries, samples, documentation and some early tools. If you like to make pretty things fly around on the screen, this is a pretty tasty piece of work. It really shows what Swing and Java2D can do. A pile of folks have been working hard on it for quite a while and have done a lovely job. Try it out and let us know what you think.

One of the cooler tricks is the approach to integration with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. These two popular tools have proprietary (deep dark secret) file formats, so importing them is problematic, but they do have extensive SDKs. So rather than building import filters into NetBeans we built export filters for the Adobe tools that generate JavaFX code (!) from the illustrations. It's then a clean process in NetBeans to add behavior to them.

Enjoy!

Simple media player using JavaFX SDK Preview Release  (blogs.sun.com)

JavaFX SDK has a lot of features and among them the best one I like is the media. It allows me to play my favorite media in a player that has my style. A sample code to play a media with bare bones player could look something like this:

/*

* PlayVideo.fx

*

* Created on 31 Jul, 2008
*/

import javafx.ext.swing.*;

import javafx.scene.paint.*;

import javafx.scene.geometry.*;

import javafx.scene.media.*;

import javafx.scene.text.*;

import javafx.scene.*;

import java.lang.*;

import javafx.input.*;

public class PlayVideo {

   private attribute mediaURL = "{__DIR__}MySampleMedia.wmv";

   private attribute player:MediaPlayer = MediaPlayer {

       media: Media {

           source: mediaURL;

       }

       autoPlay: false

       repeatCount: MediaPlayer.REPEAT_FOREVER

   }

   attribute frame:SwingFrame = SwingFrame {

       content: Canvas {

           content: [

               MediaView {

                   mediaPlayer: player

               },

               Group {

                   content: [

                       Rectangle {

                           width: 100

                           height: 50

                           fill: Color.GRAY

                           onMousePressed: function(e:MouseEvent):Void {

                               player.play();

                           }

                       },

                       Text {

                           content: "Play"

                           fill: Color.WHITE

                           translateX: 36

                           translateY: 34

                       }

                   ]

                   translateX: 110

                   translateY: 190

               }

           ]

       }

       visible: true

       closeAction: function() {

           player.pause();

           frame.close();

           System.exit(0);

       }

       title: "Close window to exit"

   }

}

var app:PlayVideo = PlayVideo{}

 You should be able to play most media on Windows that is not DRM protected or from CD/DVD tray.

JavaFX Preview SDK Available  (blogs.sun.com)

I was one of the pessimists that didn't believe in this new buzz word - Java FX. Today I'll have to say "excuse me, please". The JavaFX SDK preview was released. It is not final version at all. But you can try it and play with it. All the major problems has been fixed (I hope), all the API changes are finished(or not, Chris?).

I tried a few demos.

PC World - Business Center: Sun Releases Preview of JavaFX SDK  (www.pcworld.com)

Developers will be able to get their hands on a preview SDK (software development kit) for JavaFX as of Thursday, marking Sun's entry into the RIA (rich Internet application) framework wars.

JavaFX Preview SDK is here  (blogs.sun.com)

A lot of teams have put in long hours and deep thoughts to make this release. Finally the preview release of JavaFX SDK that was promised during JaveOne 2008 is finally out at http://javafx.com/. Check it out and feel free to provide your feedback and comments in the forums. The SDK has support for a lot of features such as drag-out applet if you are using JDK 1.6.0_10 (6 upadte 10), media capability and the usual transformation of rendered object. While you are there, check out the demos and sample code too.

Get JavaFX SDK

Sun has just released the Preview of the JavaFX SDK. This release targets developers and scripters, is available for Windows and Mac and has the following content:

• The JavaFX compiler and runtime (2D graphics, media libraries)
• Command-line tools (javafx, javafxc and javafxdoc)
• NetBeans plugin (build, preview, debug)
• Project Nile: add-on to Adobe tools to product JavaFX
• Documentation, tutorial, samples

This is all available in an all-in-one download and provides more content than the community openjfx.com site.

The relationship to server-side computing is in the way JavaFX clients can interact with Java-based back-ends (including with client-side dependency injection for things like web services or EJB references). Get previous coverage on JavaFX by following the javafx tag.

JavaFX Preview SDK released  (weblogs.java.net)

I'm happy to announce that we have released the first preview version of the JavaFX SDK. Head over to JavaFX.com to check it out. We've all been working very hard on it for the last few months, so it's quite...

Announcing the JavaFX Preview SDK  (blogs.sun.com)

Hi, my name is Jacob Lehrbaum and I'm a senior product line manager in the JavaFX Marketing team.  I'd like to begin by welcoming you to the official JavaFX blog.  I'm even more thrilled to announce that we officially launched the JavaFX Preview SDK this morning!  This is a very exciting milestone for us as it marks our first official release and includes tools to enable web scripters to begin prototyping JavaFX content for use in desktop or browsers.  In the JavaFX Preview SDK we are including the following elements:

1) JavaFX Compiler & Runtime tools
2) 2D Graphics and Media Libraries
3) Tutorials API docs, and Sample Code
4) NetBeans Plug-in
5) Project Nile- a suite of tools and plug-ins

Think Creative - Be Creative

With these tools and runtime components, scripters are empowered to very quickly create JavaFX content directly in NetBeans using a highly intuitive scripting language that's designed to match the way they think about building out interfaces - it allows you to think creative and be creative.  Through Project Nile, you can take graphical assets created in design tools like Photoshop and Illustrator and incorporate them directly into your JavaFX applications.  You can then manipulate the various layers of the assets directly from JavaFX.

As RIA's get more and more advanced they require more than great visual effects and media integration. For these advanced applications, you can pull in Java Libraries and knit together all the pieces using JavaFX.  In essence, JavaFX acts as the glue and the framework that brings together all of the aspects of the designer and developer workflow!

All The Screens of Your Life

Taking a step back for a moment, I'd like to talk about what we're looking to accomplish with JavaFX.  If you look out at the industry, there are a couple of major trends we see driving our direction.  As technology continues becoming a more prolific part of our daily lives, consumers are demanding fun, easier, and immersive experiences.  The second trend is the movement of content and services into the cloud.  With web 2.0, cloud computing, and social networking, we are becoming more and more comfortable with moving our content into the network so that we can access it anytime and anywhere.  Once your content is in the network, it immediately becomes more valuable if you can access it across all your devices!  Enter Java.

Java provides an ideal platform across all the screens of your life, due to its availability across over 2 billion mobile handsets, 85% of desktops, and its position as the platform for next-generation high-definition content as part of the Blu-ray (BD-j) specification.  Building on top of Java, JavaFX enables you to build cross-device RIA applications and content that enable you to build immersive, interactive experiences that incorporate 2D & 3D graphics, animations, audio and video, and rich scalable text.  To this end, we designed JavaFX around a common API profile so you can build content across all your screens.  We're also giving you profiles for the desktop and we will have profiles for additional devices in the future, so that if you would like to optimize or extend your application to take advantage of specific features available on the desktop or perhaps on the mobile device, you can choose to build in support for these specific extensions in addition to the JavaFX Common APIs.

Leveraging the Java Platform

As I mentioned earlier, a key advantage of JavaFX is that it builds off the strengths of the Java Platform while making it significantly easier to build rich, highly interactive and immersive experiences.  While traditional RIA applications have been mostly focused on animation and graphics, JavaFX will allow you to go further by adding more functionality enabling you to build desktop and more advanced RIAs. You will also be able to run JavaFX applications on existing, in-market devices. And with the upcoming release of Java SE 6 update 10 you can even build applets that can run in the browser and can be dragged and saved to the desktop, seamlessly, allowing you to build one application and deploy it to the browser or to the desktop. This provides a dead-simple discovery and install process and will enable consumers to break free from the browser!

 Now its your turn

 Over the next couple of days and weeks we will be linking to blogs by members of the JavaFX team as well as pointing you to articles, sample applications, reviews, etc out in the community.  The first blog, by Joshua Marinacci, will share why he is excited about JavaFX as well as a simple but cool sample application that you can play with.  In the meanwhile, please go ahead and download the SDK and get started playing around with JavaFX and let us know what you think, and please check back for updates!

JavaFX SDK Preview => disponible!

• performante (2D, 3D, Vectoriel, Audio, Video, etc...)
• open source
• Portable
• s'adressant aux comp?tences Java existantes
• r?utilisant simplement les API Java existantes (API d'entreprise entre autre)
