Limos pulling out leaving Google Android in the dust  (blogs.sun.com)

Here's a blog post from the Tech Observer on how LiMo is launching 7 new Linux cell phones from Motorola, NEC, and Panasonic, making their grand total now 21 cell phones shipping with LiMo's Linux. Google Android's total is still 0. The momentum seems to be swinging in LiMo's favor.

See:

Lots of Limos pulling out

Here's a quote:

Sure the iPhone is all the rage,
and the media keeps hyping the
 Google's android, but the smart
money is on the LiMo phones.

 The LiMo Foundation today announced
 that seven more handsets were
 commercially available-- models from
 Motorola, NEC, and Panasonic.
And, remember that LiMo phones can easily run Java ME technology to run your favorite mobile apps. That's the whole point of programming to the most ubiquitous mobile platform, not to the most vaporific mobile platform.

JavaFX Preview SDK is out!!  (blogs.sun.com)

Call me superstitious or call me over-optimistic. But I can't help noticing the fact that just after the JavaFX Preview SDK launch, we have had a couple of bright, sunny days. Can this be an indication of the times to come? Will JavaFX brighten up the horizons of RIA development? Only time will tell. What I can tell you, is that the JavaFX language rocks!! JavaFX is a futuristic paradigm for creating beautiful & responsive RIAs targeted across every device in your life- from desktop browsers and mobile devices, to set-top boxes and Blue-ray Discs.

As a member of the JavaFX quality team, to say that working on this project has been the most challenging phase of my career would be diluting the intensity of the emotion. Its been a roller coaster ride so far. To begin with, we had never-ending strategy meetings, followed by discussions, followed by more meetings. After this phase, very quickly, we started implementing the test specs into actual test code. But by then, the underlying implementation had already changed! Right from its inception the language has been evolving and growing. From an interpreter based version to a compiler version, APIs getting added into the code base at the speed of light, class names & attributes morphing into different names and forms repeatedly - Keeping up with the pace of work and changes has been a test of endurance. What helped us to keep going was that we had a stimulant much more potent than the usual "innumerable cups of coffee" and that was JavaFX itself. Right from the day we started working on this language, there has been a constantly growing realization that we have a product that is here to stay!! And to create MAGIC!! In fact, I  can 't think of a better word than that. The simplicity of the JavaFX language and the power of the JavaFX APIs have been inspirational and absolutely out of the world. Very suddenly our job profile had been turned from "Writing test cases to test the APIs" to "Every Day, Unleash Your Creativity!!" Every one in the team came out with really neat code samples, demos and games, that appeared to be from another world- but one glance at the code and you'd realize how incredulously simple the language is!!
Based on my experience so far, with JavaFX it is not a question of "Will it succeed?", the question is "How quickly will it succeed?"!!

As the email box gets flooded with cheers and congratulatory messages, we settle down now to grasp the the idea that the baby called JavaFX that we have been nurturing for sometime now, has taken its first step out to face the world. Even as we wait in anticipation to see how the world reacts to this phenomenon-in-the-making, there is also the realization that there is still a lot more work to do and there is very little time to do it. The next round of the roller coaster has already started for the JavaFX 1.0 release and promises to be an even more heady experience. There are more APIs, more features, more excitement to be added into the language.
JavaFX is a Revolution in-the-making, which is going to change the world develops GUIs!!
If you are not already on the bandwagon, take your first step in your effort in being a part of this revolution by clicking here.
